Woman stabbed near Cabot Square; woman, 26, arrested: police

A woman is in critical condition after she was stabbed near Cabot Square early Tuesday evening, police say.

Montreal police say they received several 911 calls at around 6:30 p.m. reporting an injured person near the intersection of Atwater Avenue and Sainte-Catherine Street West in the Ville-Marie borough.

When officers arrived, the victim had already been sent to hospital by paramedics.

According to preliminary information gathered at the scene, there was a verbal altercation between the victim and a suspect that degenerated. The victim was stabbed in the upper body with a sharp object, said police spokesperson Johany Charland.

Shortly after, police arrested a 26-year-old woman near the scene of the stabbing. The suspect will be questioned by investigators.

Police have set up a perimeter to secure evidence and speak to witnesses as the investigation continues.
