Parents line up overnight for Royal Vale registration

Taking part in an annual tradition, dozens of parents spend Sunday night camping outside Royal Vale school in order to register their children for kindergarten.

Registration for the English Montreal School Board begins Monday, and while many schools will add classes and teachers to accommodate newcomers, that's not the case at Royal Vale in NDG.

The school is one of the few in Montreal that offers kindergarten to grade 11 and accepts only a few dozen new students each year with priority going to the younger brothers and sisters of existing students.

As in year’s past the school is in demand due to its enriched math and science program.

Children who will not be accepted at this school can always find room at other schools, and the EMSB has two other elementary schools a short distance away.
