Since spring flooding began, people have filled and picked up more than 25,000 sandbags in Minden Hills. The Township remains under a state of emergency due to severe flooding conditions. Minden has two sandbag locations: the Minden Curling Club parking lot and Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church parking lot, where residents can scoop their own sand, fill a bag and take it with them to protect their homes and businesses from flood damage. Also available to community members is an evacuation centre at the S.G. Nesbitt Memorial Arena and Community Centre on Parkside Street. The centre is open 24/7 for those who need to flee their homes due to flooding. It is equipped with light refreshments, snacks, water filling station, showers, sleeping area, and charging stations for medical devices and phones. Additionally, paramedic services will be available on site as needed. Community groups are expected to be donating meals to the centre in the coming days.
