A fire that started in a laundromat spread and forced six families out of their apartments on Friday night. Montreal fire department (SIM) spokesperson Patrick Fournel said that the fire started in the back of the three-storey building around 9:30 p.m., and spread to the six apartments on the second and third floors, and the business on the ground floor. “Nobody got injured, and there was about 60 firefighters on scene,” said Fournel. The blaze was quenched, and crews left the scene around 11:20 p.m. Fournel said three of the families forced to leave their homes are staying with family or friends, and three were taken in by the Red Cross. “A lot of damage from the fire,” said Fournel. Experts believe the fire started in a clothes dryer in the laundromat. There was no criminal element believed to be involved, Fournel said.
