‘Leave yourself lots of extra time if you are heading out tonight’: Snowfall expected as Alberta clipper moves into the region

Multiple watches and weather advisories are in effect as an Alberta clipper moves across southern Ontario Tuesday night.

An Alberta clipper is on the move, and southern Ontario is in its crosshairs with more snow is set to fall on the region late Tuesday and Wednesday.

According to CTV News London Meteorologist Julie Atchison, a clipper system is currently on the move, bringing some snowfall for the evening commute towards Grey-Bruce and Huron-Perth.

Atchison says in London, the snowfall will start just after 6 p.m., with the bulk of the snowfall wrapping up by midnight. Approximately five centimeters are expected in total, but there will be a risk of freezing drizzle overnight.

Temperatures will drop to –3 C, feeling like – 11 overnight with the wind chill.

Multiple weather watches and advisories are in place across the region, including blowing snow and snow squalls in Perth, Grey and Bruce counties. A travel advisory is also in effect for Oxford County, stretching east of Toronto and into the Golden Horseshoe.

“This system packing a punch and in terms of timing, we will expect this to continue as we push toward midnight,” she said.

Atchison says the clipper system will continue to cross the area heading into Wednesday morning, and as winds shift to the west, this will lead to possible lake effect flurries with a risk of snow squalls.

“Getting under a snow squall will put those numbers up from about 10 to 15 centimeters,” she explained. “Leave yourself lots of extra time if you are heading out tonight.”

On Wednesday, the daytime high will reach 0 C, will cool down to – 4 C, feeling like – 11 in the afternoon due to gusty winds of up to 50 km/h.
