Highbury Avenue, Huron Street intersection set to reopen following major water main break. Here’s when

A busy north London intersection is set to reopen after a serious water main break early Tuesday morning.

As previously reported by CTV News, shortly after 3 a.m. on Tuesday, a water main at the intersection of Highbury Avenue North and Huron Street gave way, leaving a large sinkhole at the busy north end intersection.

City crews determined an older cast iron pope carrying drinking water had failed. Water was shut off to the area, affecting local businesses, and crews were busy Tuesday replacing the damaged pipe.

In an update from the city on Wednesday, asphalt work at the intersection has since been completed.

Due to the thickness of the asphalt, crews are keeping traffic off the area for the remainder of Wednesday to allow it to cool properly and guarantee its longevity.

Crews will remove traffic control “first thing” Thursday morning, and the city says the intersection is expected to reopen by 8 a.m.

“We thank residents for their patience as this work is completed,” the City of London said on social media.
