Employee attacked while trying to stop thieves at Guelph store

Guelph Police are trying to identify two thieves who attacked a store employee.

The incident happened on April 24 at an unnamed business on Stone Road West.

The employee told officers they saw two people removing tags from items, then put them inside their bags.

Police said the employee followed the pair out of the store and confronted them about the stolen merchandise.

“One of the subjects struck the employee several times in the face and pulled out a clump of hair,” a media release said. “The employee’s glasses fell off during the altercation and were smashed by the second subject.”

Someone who witnessed the interaction then stepped in to help the victim.

“A customer tried to assist the employee and was also assaulted,” police said.

No serious injuries were reported.

The first suspect was described as a white female with short dark hair. She was wearing a grey hoodie, black winter jacket, grey track pants, black and white shoes, a black Nike backpack and a baseball cap.

The second suspect was a white female with long purple hair. She was wearing a blue coat, black pants and a backpack.

Police said both had bicycles.
