Calgary under air quality warning as smoke blows in from Saskatchewan: Environment Canada

Environment Canada says Calgary is under an air quality warning as smoke from wildfires in northern Saskatchewan rolls over Alberta.

The yellow warning, issued around 2:30 p.m. Monday, says smoke from wildfires burning across northern Saskatchewan has moved into parts of Alberta.

It’s expected to remain in the province for the next few days, causing poor air quality and reduced visibility.

Environment Canada says people might experience eye, nose and throat irritation from the smoke, as well as headaches or a mild cough.

More serious symptoms include wheezing, chest pains or a severe cough, the agency said.

People 65 or older, pregnant people, infants, young children and those with existing illnesses or chronic health conditions are more likely to be affected by wildfire smoke.

“When indoors, keep windows and doors closed as much as possible,” the weather agency added.
