With more rain in the forecast, safety a concern for Grand River watershed

More rain is in the forecast. CTV's Ashley Bacon has the details.

The Grand River Conservation Authority is urging the public to be careful around local waterways.

Thunderstorms early Tuesday morning brought 20 to 40 mm of rain to southwestern Ontario, causing flows to rise across the watershed, and another 30 or 40 mm of rain is expected to fall between Wednesday and Thursday.

“No significant flooding is expected with this event, however, it is expected that the additional rain will increase river levels,” the GRCA said. “Higher flows will increase the safety risk around rivers, streams and waterbodies throughout the watershed. Banks adjacent to local waterways are very slippery and, when combined with cold, fast-moving water, pose a serious hazard. The public is encouraged to exercise extreme caution around local waterways.”

The conservation authority noted that reservoirs would be used to reduce the risk of downstream flooding.
