Markdale driver charged in Arthur collision that killed dog, sent pedestrian to trauma centre

A man has been charged in a collision that killed a dog and sent a pedestrian to a trauma centre.

The crash happened around noon on April 9. The Ontario Provincial Police said a pedestrian and their dog were crossing Highway 6 in the Town of Arthur when they were hit by the driver of a transport truck.

Investigators said the truck driver was travelling northbound on Highway 6 and tried to turn right onto Frederick Street East.

The pedestrian was airlifted to hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries. The dog died.

The driver, a 60-year-old from Markdale, was charged with careless driving causing bodily harm and failure to yield to a pedestrian on a roadway.
