Health authorities 'very concerned' about lethal heroin in Grey-Bruce

Three overdoses in 24 hours have prompted a warning about heroin from the Grey Bruce Health Unit.

The health unit issued a press release Monday, saying a potentially lethal mix of heroin had been making its way around the region.

“We’re very concerned,” Dr. Christine Kennedy, the region’s acting medical officer of health, said in the release.

“We’re asking family and friends who know individuals who use drugs to be proactive and reach out to these people to make them aware of the danger of this particular heroin.”

The strain of heroin in question is being blamed for the death of a man in Owen Sound, as well as two additional overdose cases.

Health officials recommend taking smaller doses and not being alone when using drugs as two strategies to prevent overdoses.
