Youth hospitalized after e-scooter hit in northern Alberta crosswalk

Mounties in Fort McMurray are looking for witnesses to a collision that put a youth driving an e-scooter in the hospital last week.

Mounties say the youth was riding on the sidewalk going south along Paquette Drive when they turned into a crosswalk near Pacific Crescent. The move made vehicles driving through the crosswalk stop suddenly. A northbound SUV, however, wasn’t able to stop and collided with the e-scooter.

The youth was taken by ground ambulance to a hospital in the area. Police say he had injuries but did not say to what extent. The SUV driver stayed to speak with police.

Anyone with dash cam footage of the collision is asked to call Wood Buffalo RCMP at 780-788-4040.

Mounties also reminded potential e-scooter users that they’re not to be used on any street or highway as operating a motor vehicle requires a licence, registration and insurance that isn’t available for e-scooters.
