Sexual offender previously convicted of hijacking an aircraft to be released in Edmonton

The Edmonton Police Service has issued a warning about a convicted sexual offender who will be released into the community.

Investigators believe he may commit another offence while in the community.

Larry Maxwell Stanford, 74, will be released after a custodial sentence for a violent sexual offence in 2017.

Police say he has a long criminal history, including a sexual offence, aircraft hijacking, and an attempted murder, and has spent significant periods of his life behind bars.

Stanford will be under a number of court-ordered conditions upon his release, including having no contact with his victims, abiding by a curfew, and not possessing any drugs or alcohol.

Stanford is described as 5′5″, with a medium build, brown eyes. His hair is grey and he is balding.
