Nordic spa coming to Edmonton in 2028

The Scandinave Group has chosen Edmonton for its newest nordic spa location. The company applied for re-zoning of an area in Brander Gardens last fall.

Edmontonians can get ready to relax by 2028 as a well-known Canadian wellness spa has chosen the city as its newest home.

Edmonton is slated to be the fifth location for Scandinave Spa, a nordic spa experience expected to generate over $120 million for the city’s economy in the first 10 years.

The new location will overlook the North Saskatchewan River valley in the Brander Gardens neighbourhood. It’s anticipated to open by the summer of 2028.

In a release Wednesday, the Scandinave Group said Edmonton was chosen for its “mix of natural and urban aspects, reinforcing the potential for tourism development in the Edmonton region.”

Scandinave Group CEO Steve Arsenault told CTV News Edmonton that the decision to bring the spa to a destination “20 minutes driving distance from anywhere in Edmonton” made sense.

He also said the goal is to not infringe on the river valley.

“We’ll be adding to the existing landscape ... it’s part of what we offer,” he said.

The spa is a notch in the belt of Alberta’s wellness tourism sector bolstered by the support of Travel Alberta, Edmonton Global, Explore Edmonton and city government.

Arsenault also said he’s excited to see how the spa partners with businesses in the surrounding areas.

“I can’t wait to get back at the drawing board and get this going ... we’ve worked on it, and now we’re looking to open our doors.”
