6 arrested in Fort McMurray drug-trafficking bust

Six people face charges after more than a quarter million dollars’ worth of drugs and cash were found in Fort McMurray.

The accused, ranging in age from 24 years old to 37 years old, together face 48 charges related to drugs and weapons offences.

They are accused of drug trafficking.

Three are from Fort McMurray, while three are from Calgary, including Mia Franco Betharte, 28, who has not been located. A warrant has been issued for her arrest.

After investigating for five months, police executed search warrants on four homes and six vehicles between Jan. 16 and 30.

They seized four firearms, as well as varying amounts of cocaine, methamphetamine, fentanyl, two vehicles that are suspected proceeds of crime, and $30,000 in cash.

The three handguns and one sawed-off shotgun will undergo forensics and ballistics testing.
