50,000 annual service hours, 20 new buses added for spring schedule: ETS

Edmonton Transit Service (ETS) will switch to its spring schedule on April 27.

The seasonal service change will “reflect typical spring ridership patterns,” according to a press release. This will include pausing post-secondary school service until the fall.

ETS also says it will add 50,000 annual service hours, with some of the new hours being used to increase frequency on the regional airport Route 747. The route between Century Park Transit Centre to the Edmonton International Airport will run every 30 minutes from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. throughout the week.

To accommodate the service expansion, 20 new buses will be added to the transit fleet.

Some of the key service updates include:

• a new bus route for Keswick and Glenridding will connect the two neighbourhoods and the Leger and Century Park transit centres;
• temporary service adjustments in the Baturyn neighbourhood as the main corridor of 100 Street, 172 Avenue and 109 Street is closed for construction from April 27 to October;
• transit detours as the 132 Avenue Renewal Project sees construction continue until the fall on two separate areas;
• rehabilitation work on the Coliseum LRT bridge will impact service and frequencies for the Capital and Metro Lines; and
• the Stony Plain Road Shuttle (Route 999) will be discontinued on April 27 as bridge construction is now complete. On Demand Transit service will replace the shuttle to meet ridership demands.
