19-year-old charged with 2nd-degree murder in connection with central Edmonton shooting

A 19-year-old man has been charged in connection with a death in central Edmonton over the weekend.

Hayden Halcrow is accused of second-degree murder in relation to the death of Alexander Edward Colin Reid, who was 38.

Police found Reid around 6:30 a.m. on Saturday in the area of 106 Avenue and 113 Street. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.

An autopsy later revealed he had died of gunshot wounds.

Police say Halcrow is also facing other firearms-related charges and was wanted on a warrant for attempted murder in a May shooting incident.

Homicide investigators say just before Reid’s death, a firearm was handled “recklessly in a crowd of people.”

The unit is still looking for video footage from the area of 111 Street to 115 Street and 103 Avenue to 107 Avenue that may have caught a dark-coloured SUV leaving the area between 6:30 and 6:45 a.m.

They’re also asking for footage from the area of 113 Street between 105 Avenue and 106 Avenue between 6 a.m. and 7 a.m.
