Stolen car leads to arrest of man wanted on Canada-wide warrants: police

Calgary police say a stolen vehicle officers happened upon led them to a man wanted on Canada-wide warrants.

Samuel Jacob Chapman was wanted for alleged parole and firearm prohibition violations.

The 40-year-old now faces 18 additional charges.

According to police, on May 7, officers found in the northeast community of Martindale an Audi S4 that had been reported stolen a few days prior in Salmon Arm, B.C.

Police say they seized a loaded shotgun from the vehicle.

Also allegedly in the vehicle were designer jewelry, clothing and handbags.

A HAWCS helicopter and a K-9 unit were brought in to find a suspect.

Police say they arrested Chapman soon after in the southwest community of Sienna Hills.

He was charged with:

• possession of a firearm contrary to a prohibition order (x8);
• possession of stolen property over $5,000;
• possession of stolen property under $5,000;
• unauthorized possession of a firearm;
• unsafe storage of a firearm;
• unauthorized possession of a firearm in a vehicle;
• possession of break and enter instruments;
• possession of methamphetamine;
• resisting arrest;
• driving while prohibited; and
• driving without insurance.

He’ll next appear in court on June 16.
