Receiving addiction recovery supports funds now easier for Lethbridge Polytechnic

The Government of Alberta is making it easier and more stable for post-secondary institutions to receive funding for addiction recovery supports.

The Government of Alberta is helping support addiction recovery for post-secondary institutions through a $3-million grant.

The money will go to support Recovery on Campus, a program led by the University of Calgary that provides $3,000 seed grants annually to 23 participating institutions, as well as $75,000 grants for three institutions (Mount Royal University, Red Deer Polytechnic and the University of Alberta) to create campus recovery programs in full.

Lethbridge Polytechnic is one of the schools that can apply for the money, which is used to offer a range of support programs and awareness campaigns around addiction.

“Having supports for students really allows them to be able to focus on their school, but also live with the supports they need around recovery, around addiction, around making decisions of what options there are for them, if they’re contemplating recovery, so they can be successful in school,” said Lori Harasem, Lethbridge Polytechnic’s health promotion coordinator.

The provincial funding will also provide for an enhanced grant of $75,000 per year to three select institutions.
