Lethbridge police hosting presentations in March to help prevent fraud

The Lethbridge Police Service’s economic crimes unit is marking Fraud Prevention Month this March by hosting three community events.

The initiative is aimed at helping residents recognize, prevent and report fraud.

Lethbridge police will host presentations at the Lethbridge Senior Citizens Organization, Nord-Bridge Seniors Centre and Cor Van Raay YMCA to share tips and information with the community.

Police say fraud and scams continue to be on the rise across the country, with about $645 million in Canada being defrauded from people.

“It’s easy for criminals to do this,” said Sgt. Kevin Talbot with the Lethbridge Police Service economic crimes unit.

“They can sit at their desk and scam someone as opposed to having to have personal interactions with somebody and put in the work, so it’s extremely easy to commit one of these crimes and with technology, it keeps on making it easier and easier.”

The sessions are free to attend.
