Coaldale cuts the ribbon on new water reservoir

The $13 million project was funded by both the town and the province.

A ribbon cutting ceremony was held today for the completion of a new potable water reservoir in Coaldale.

Identified as a key priority in the town’s 2019 infrastructure master plan, the project is one of the most important water infrastructure investments in Coaldale’s history.

The new reservoir has increased storage capacity from 3,400 cubic metres to 8,300 cubic metres.

The $13 million project was funded by both the town and provincial government.

Coaldale mayor Jack Van Rijn said the new facility will be key to growing the town.

“Whenever we have investment opportunities in the town of Coaldale, we always have to be careful about what kind of investment is coming in and their water needs,” said Van Rijn, “and potable water is a commodity that we have to be very careful to make sure that we not only have enough for our residents, but also so we can pick and choose the developments that come into Coaldale.”

The new reservoir and pump station is located northwest of Coaldale.
