The Mosaic Company has signed a 10-year agreement with Ducks Unlimited Canada to restore wetlands across Saskatchewan. Mosaic will invest more than $4.4 million aimed at restoring almost 180 hectares of wetlands, according to a Tuesday news release. “Mosaic is committed to operating responsibly and in line with Saskatchewan’s environmental expectations and regulations,” said Lawrence Berthelet, Mosaic’s vice president of potash operations. “This 10-year agreement with Ducks Unlimited Canada allows us to take a long-term, science-based approach to wetland restoration, ensuring impacts are addressed while delivering meaningful, measurable environmental outcomes.” Berthelet also thanked Saskatchewan’s Ministry of Environment for its contributions and engagement. Ducks Unlimited Canada will spearhead the identification, design and implementation of projects in priority landscapes across the province, focusing on areas that provide the “greatest benefit” for waterfowl, wildlife and local communities. “This agreement demonstrates how industry and conservation organizations can work together to conserve and restore healthy ecosystems while supporting sustainable development, the economy and ensuring regulatory compliance,” said Janis Rod, director of sustainability solutions with Ducks Unlimited Canada. Mosaic says the agreement’s long-term approach seeks to cut down the lag time between environmental responsibility and operational growth. The agriculture and fertilizer giant said it also reflects a commitment to responsible resource use in Saskatchewan.
