Windsor knifepoint robbery suspect caught at Pearson airport trying to flee: WPS

Windsor police say a 23-year-old man wanted in connection with a knifepoint robbery in Windsor’s east end was arrested at Pearson International Airport while attempting to flee from Canada.

At 1:40 a.m. on Dec. 30, police responded to the report of an armed robbery in the 9900 block of Tecumseh Road East.

According to police, two masked males entered a gas station, with one brandishing a knife. Police say no injuries were reported.

Cash and merchandise were stolen before the suspects fled on foot.

On July 10, members of the Windsor Police Major Crimes Unit contacted one of the suspects by phone and advised him of the charges he was facing. Police say the suspect refused to co-operate with investigators or turn himself in.

The following day, he was arrested at the airport as he attempted to board a flight out of the country. Windsor police later attended the Peel Regional Police Service and took custody of the suspect.

The 23-year-old has been charged with 13 criminal offences, including:

• Robbery with an offensive weapon

• Assault with a weapon

• Forcible confinement

• Uttering threats

• Possession of property obtained by crime (x 9)
