Severe thunderstorms may be possible in parts of the Maritimes Tuesday. Yellow severe thunderstorm watches are now in place across New Brunswick. Environment Canada says the thunderstorms may be capable of producing damaging wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain. There is also a risk of a tornado, according to the agency. The stormy weather is expected in the afternoon and evening. “If threatening weather approaches, take cover in a basement or interior room. If outside, protect yourself from flying debris and hail. When thunder roars, go indoors! Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Secure loose objects,” the watch reads. There are currently no weather alerts in place for Nova Scotia or Prince Edward Island. CTV Atlantic meteorologist Kalin Mitchell says there is a moderate risk for severe thunderstorms in P.E.I. Tuesday evening and a low risk for the island and Nova Scotia Tuesday night. The highest chance of thunderstorms shifts east into Nova Scotia on Wednesday.
