Mounties in Burnaby are reminding residents to be vigilant after they say two homes were broken into through unlocked patio doors on the same day. “With the warmer weather now upon us, we’re reminding everyone to secure their doors and windows when they go out,” Burnaby RCMP Cpl. Chad Premack said in a news release on Tuesday. “Often a simple locked door or window is all it takes to avoid being a victim of property crime.” RCMP said both homes hit in the recent break-and-enters were in the Forest Grove area of North Burnaby. “Several rooms were rummaged through and personal items, including jewelry, were stolen in both cases,” Mounties added. Police said they’ve seen residents become victims of break-ins even when they’re home working in their backyards because they left a front door or window unlocked. RCMP are reminding people to set their alarm systems, lock all doors and windows before leaving home and keep doors locked even while working in the backyard.
