Calgary Horticultural Society hosts Gardener’s Market

Large crowds of hopeful gardeners attended the Calgary Horticulture Society's gardener's market Saturday at ATCO Park.

For avid gardeners in Calgary, the warm temperatures can’t get here soon enough.

Many escaped Saturday’s snow and blustery conditions for the comfort of ATCO Park and a chance to see what new seeds or plants they can add to their gardens this year.

Several exhibitors were showcasing new gardening tools while others offered tips on landscape design.

Calgary is also divided into several growing zones which can make it hard to know what to plant where.

“But we also hear a lot of questions about, well, I live downtown, and I can grow just about anything, and then, by the same token, I’ll hear from people in Harvest Hills, and they say, Well, I have to really watch what I plant, because it’s not hardy,” said Kat Smyth of the Calgary Horticultural Society.

There are also several cooking classes showcasing new recipes you can try with your garden produce.
