Burnaby fire crews fought and extinguished a townhouse fire on Sunday afternoon after flames sparked inside a unit. The Burnaby Fire Department says it was called to Tretheway Drive at 2:18 p.m., where they found a fully involved townhouse fire. Assistant Chief Mark Forsberg told CTV News that the burning unit’s homeowners were already outside when crews arrived. He explained that flames were spreading to an adjacent unit, so firefighters attacked the building from both sides and confined the fire before heading in. “Crews found some heavy conditions when they did get to the interior. After they performed the knockdown, it was determined that it was, for the most part, contained to the original room,” he said. Forsberg said the fire was then extinguished and crews did “great work” in the process. He added that 36 firefighters and three engines tackled the blaze, with an ambulance and FortisBC on scene to assist. There were no injuries to report, according to Forsberg, but he said damage to both units may keep residents out of their homes for now. Officials have said the fire doesn’t appear suspicious, and its cause will be investigated further this week.
