A busy stretch of Yonge Street will be closed for three days starting Tuesday, as crews complete a critical deep sanitary sewer connection for Barrie’s ongoing road reconstruction project. The closure affects Yonge Street between St. Paul’s Crescent and Mapleview Drive East and will remain in place until Thurs, July 17. The city says construction will continue around the clock to shorten the overall timeline and minimize long-term traffic disruptions. Project update Recent progress includes the reopening of St. Paul’s Crescent, completion of road widening on the west side of Yonge Street and a traffic shift to begin watermain installation on the east side. Once complete, the project will widen Yonge Street between Mapleview Drive East and Lockhart Road to five lanes while adding a cycle track, sidewalks and upgraded underground infrastructure to support the city’s ongoing growth.
