Nurses in British Columbia established a picket line at Victoria General Hospital Sunday. Striking members of the B.C. Nurses’ Union are continuing to escalate job action despite the appointment of mediators in the labour dispute. On Monday, a picket line will go up at Nanaimo General Hospital. The union began job action starting on July 2, with a ban on non-nursing duties and non-essential overtime. While many of the 60,000 unionized nurses are covered under essential-service agreements, those not on the job have already been picketing in front of health-care facilities in Surrey and Vancouver.
