B.C. driver caught at 117 km/h in 50 km/h zone in Calgary

A B.C. driver has earned himself a date with a Calgary judge after being caught speeding in the northeast on Friday.

Calgary police say a Dodge Ram pickup truck was recorded at 117 km/h on Aero Drive N.E. on Jan. 30, more than twice the posted speed limit of 50 km/h.

To make matters worse, officials say the driver was passing two vehicles on the single-lane road at the time.

“The driver put himself, his passenger and everyone around him at serious risk,” police said on X. “He received mandatory court summonses for speeding and unsafe passing.”

The speedster’s capture comes about a week after police caught two other lead-footed drivers on Calgary’s ring road, Stoney Trail.

Those drivers were caught driving at 177 km/h in a 100 km/h zone and 138 km/h in a section that’s limited to 80 km/h.

Police say 38 people lost their lives in crashes on Calgary roads in 2025.

“We all have a role to play in keeping each other safe. Slow down and be patient.”
