Woman accused of being impaired rams police cruiser, nearly hitting officers

Police in Owen Sound say a woman accused of impaired driving rammed her vehicle into a police cruiser, narrowly missing two officers, before taking off.

According to the police service, the officers were called to check on the woman’s well-being on Sunday and after speaking with her, determined she was impaired.

"When asked to step out of the car, she instead started the engine, put it in reverse gear and rammed a cruiser twice," Owen Sound police stated.

Police say she then drove off, nearly hitting another cruiser as she fled the scene. The officers found her a short distance away “after her vehicle stopped functioning due to physical damage.”

She was arrested and taken to the police station where two breath samples revealed she was over the legal alcohol limit, police say.

She faces seven charges under the Criminal Code and three under the Highway Traffic Act.
