Tips to avoid vehicle theft: OPP

The Huntsville Detachment of the OPP are reminding drivers about vehicle theft from the Lock it or Lose it campaign.

Especially with the cold weather, police say it’s common for people to leave their cars running unattended, which can make them vulnerable to theft.

To reduce the risk of having vehicles stolen, authorities say to not leave a vehicle running unattended and keep valuables out of sight or better yet, don’t keep valuables in the vehicle.

OPP are also advising people to lock their doors, roll up their windows and pocket the key.

Police add when it comes to parking for longer periods of time or at night, park in a well-lit area.

Finally, they are also reminding people to keep the vehicle registration certificate and proof of insurance with them as opposed to in the glove compartment.
