Section of popular trail to undergo facelift

If you’re planning to head out for a walk or bike ride along the Tom Taylor Trail in Newmarket this month, you might want to map out a detour.

A section of the popular pathway will be closed starting Sunday, while crews work on upgrades between the Mulock Drive underpass and Paul Semple Park. The work is expected to last until Sept. 29, depending on the weather.

The town says the project will focus on improving safety and durability of the trail. Crews will install new culverts to help with drainage and reduce the risk of flooding. The path will also be resurfaced, making it smoother and easier for people using it on foot, bike or with strollers and mobility devices.

The Tom Taylor Trail is one of Newmarket’s most-used recreational routes, running north to south through the community and connecting several parks and neighbourhoods.

Town officials say the temporary inconvenience will pay off with better conditions and a more enjoyable experience once the work is complete.

The closure will only affect the section from Mulock Drive to Paul Semple Park, while the rest of the trail will remain open. Signs will be posted along the trail to guide residents around the work zone.
