A 17-year-old suspect from Toronto has been charged in Timmins with second-degree murder in connection with a shooting death that took place March 14 on Dwyer Avenue. The youth was arrested April 23 in Cochrane with help from the Ontario Provincial Police. “Members of the Timmins Police Service attended and took the individual into custody,” Timmins police said in a news release April 24. “The accused was 17 years of age at the time of the offence. Under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, the identity of the young person cannot be released.” Charges include second-degree murder, pointing a firearm, discharging a firearm, along with several other weapons-related offences. The suspect is also charged with failing to comply with a release order and failing to comply with an undertaking. The accused remains in custody and is scheduled to appear before the courts Friday and is to be remanded into custody.
