The South Simcoe Police Service hopes residents and businesses in Bradford and Innisfil will join a public safety initiative through a voluntary program that aims to make the community safer. The police service teamed up with CAMSafe, a program that encourages residents and businesses to register their outdoor security cameras with the police to help solve and prevent crimes. How Does it Work? If a crime happens, like a break-in or vandalism, the program gives police access to the CAMSafe database to find registered security cameras in the area. From there, police must seek permission from the camera owners for footage to help with the investigation. The service says registering with the program does not give officers direct access to the cameras or footage - it simply gives them a contact within the database so they know who to ask for the video. The Goal The program aims to help police solve cases faster by giving them timely access to critical evidence. “This increased efficiency not only improves the likelihood of recovering stolen property and preventing further criminal activity but also contributes to safer communities where residents feel more secure and supported,” the police service stated. Residents and businesses can register security cameras for free online.
