Man airlifted to trauma centre after possible stabbing in Orillia, 2 arrested

A man in his 40s has been airlifted to a Toronto area hospital following a possible stabbing near West Street South and Highway 12 south in Orillia.

According to air ambulance Ornge paramedics, the 43-year-old man was first taken to a local hospital Sunday night before being transported to a trauma centre to be treated for “injuries relating to a stabbing/assault.”

Provincial police are saying very little about the incident at this time. In a news release issued early Monday afternoon, OPP stated officers were called about a disturbance, but did not disclose any details surrounding the incident that sent one man to a trauma centre with serious injuries.

OPP Const. Derek Tilley later confirmed to CTV News two people, a 26-year-old man and 46-year-old woman from Orillia, had been arrested. He did not specify what charges were laid, but CTV News has learned the male is facing aggravated assault, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and two counts of uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm.

Police believe this was an isolated incident and there was no threat to public safety.
