A former aquatic supervisor with the City of Orillia accused of sex crimes involving a teenager, entered into a peace bond Tuesday afternoon on a separate charge. Wearing a medical mask to cover his face, 45-year-old Manuel Marroquin-Ramirez walked into the Orillia courthouse to sign the peace bond for a criminal charge of forcible confinement relating to an allegation Marroquin-Ramirez forcibly confined a woman at the Orillia Recreation Centre in March 2021. During the proceedings the Crown read the facts on the record, telling the court a woman came forward to police in September 2024 to report what had happened to her saying she feared for her safety. Marroquin-Ramirez admitted no civil or criminal liability by signing the peace bond which included a promise to “keep the peace and be of good behaviour” for a year with a pledge of $1,000 while staying away from the complainant and rec centre along West Street. Marroquin-Ramirez was first arrested by provincial police in Orillia in September 2024 accused of sex crimes involving a teenage girl in 2021. He was charged with luring a person under 18, communicating to obtain sexual services, sexual exploitation, sexual assault, possession of child pornography, selling or distributing to a person under 19, and knowingly supplying liquor to a person under 19. Provincial police said the second complainant subsequently came forward with the separate allegation of forcible confinement. According to police, Marroquin-Ramirez is accused of offering alcohol in exchange for explicit images of a girl while he worked as the aquatic supervisor at the recreation centre. Following a preliminary hearing Marroquin-Ramirez is scheduled to return to court in early December for trial. The remaining allegations against him have not been tested in court.
