Ottawa could see up to 50 mm of rain today

You will want to bring the umbrella or raincoat as you head outside today, with up to 50 millimetres of rain expected to soak Ottawa today.

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for Ottawa and eastern Ontario, calling for “locally heavy rain.”

“A moisture laden and slow-moving low-pressure system will bring locally heavy rain showers and the risk for isolated thunderstorms,” the weather agency said.

“The high moisture associated with this low will lead to the potential for locally heavy rainfall.

The record for greatest rainfall on June 10 in Ottawa is 31.2 mm, set in 1927. Ottawa has received 27.9 mm of rain so far in June, including 21.2 mm on June 6.

The forecast calls for showers to continue through the day. There is the risk of a thunderstorm. High 25 C.

The weather agency says Ottawa could see 15 to 25 mm of rain through the day. The forecast says showers are expected between 8 a.m. and 11 p.m.

Showers will end near midnight, then it will be cloudy with a 40 per cent chance of showers. Low 20 C.

Thursday will be cloudy with a 40 per cent chance of showers in the afternoon. High 29 C with the humidex it will feel like 37.

Friday will see mainly cloudy conditions with a 60 per cent chance of showers. High 31.

The outlook for Saturday calls for a mix of sun and cloud. High 27 C.

Sunday will be cloudy with a 30 per cent chance of showers. High 24 C.

The normal temperatures for this time of year are a high of 24 C and a low of 13 C.
