Keep umbrellas up for a little while longer, rain continues

Expect a little bit of everything during the next five days - except sunshine.

You’ll want to keep your umbrellas up as Mother Nature isn’t finished yet with April showers.

Several communities in the region are under a special weather statement issued by Environment Canada, citing rainfall amounts of 20 millimetres Wednesday into Thursday.

The special weather statement includes Barrie, Collingwood, Caledon, Huntsville, Innisfil, Midland, Newmarket, Orangeville, Orillia, Owen Sound and Shelburne.

Bracebridge, Port Carling and Parry Sound can brace for 10 to 20 millimetres Wednesday night through Thursday.

Environment Canada says the ground is already near saturation, ripe conditions for further issues.

“Water will likely pool on roads and in low-lying areas,” the national weather centre explains. “Don’t drive through flooded roadways.”

Environment Canada also urges people to avoid low-lying areas.

People can expect more rounds of showers and possibly even thunderstorms.

The national weather centre warns rainfall warnings could be put in place in some areas as conditions will vary depending on where you are.

Excessive rain is affecting establishments and services significantly. For example, Shanty Bay Golf Club had to delay its opening due to heavy rain warnings.

Additionally, the popular Muskoka theme park, Santa’s Village is currently under water.

Flooding continues to be an issue in the region with many roads closed and some communities even under a state of emergency.
