Human remains found in Simcoe County forest identified as missing Barrie woman

Human remains found in the Simcoe County forest this week have been identified as a missing Barrie woman.

A post mortem conducted Friday confirmed the remains belong to Jaimee Lee Miller, 30, who was reported missing in November.

Investigators with the OPP and Barrie Police are now treating the investigation as a homicide.

Miller was last seen by family and friends on Saturday, October 3, 2015, and was last heard from via text message on Thanksgiving weekend.

At the time of her disappearance police said it was out of character for her.

According to the OPP, a person walking a dog through a section of the forest in the Hillview Crescent and Gill Road area made the discovery on Wednesday afternoon.

The area where the remains were found is a well-known path used by people who live in the area.

Since Wednesday, police have closed off a section of Gill Road from Horseshoe Valley Road to Craig Road while they searched extensively for evidence.

Police say the cause of death cannot be released and additional testing is being done.
