The B.C. MLA who represents the riding where last year’s Lapu-Lapu Day tragedy unfolded has called for any remaining donation money to be dispersed among attack survivors and victims’ families. Mable Elmore said she has written to United Way B.C., which managed the Kapwa Strong Fund, and asked that the charity help with the repatriation of any unspent donations. The fund raised more than $2 million, the bulk of which went towards grants for dozens of different community groups. The Vancouver Kensington MLA said any money that hasn’t been used already should be returned and given directly to individuals affected by the horrific mass killing event. “We’ve heard from victims and families, they continue to need support,” Elmore said Thursday. In a statement Thursday, United Way B.C. confirmed all the funds were distributed, with the final $100,000 recently going to United Filipino Canadian Associations in B.C. The charity released a report on the Kapwa Strong Fund in February outlining how the money was used.
