Former NHL legends hit the ice in Newmarket for charity exhibition game

Some of your favourite former NHL players are heading to Newmarket this month for a thrilling hockey showdown.

NHL alumni will hit the ice at Ray Twinney Recreation Complex located at 100 Eagle Street West, competing against local law enforcement officers in an exciting charity hockey game.

“This special exhibition game will feature legendary former NHL players, giving fans the chance to see their favourite hockey greats back in action. With end-to-end rushes, dazzling dekes, and powerful slap shots, this game promises nonstop excitement,” stated members online.

Doors open for the Dec. 28 event at 1 p.m., with pucks dropping at 2 p.m.

The NHL Alumni Tour take place across the province each fall and winter. Tickets are available at the door or can be purchased online here.

This year’s NHL player lineup features Dave Hutchison, Adam Munro, Luke Gazdic, Raffi Torres, Wes Jarvis, Dave McLlwain, Theo Peckham, Mike Krushelnyski, Brian McGrattan, Bryan Muir, Keith Acton, and Rob Schremp.

Each game is played in support of different local charities and non-profit organizations. According to its website, the NHL Alumni Benefit Tour supports the Special Olympics and supports the Law Enforcement Torch Run’s mission “To provide year-round sports training and athletic competition for individuals with intellectual disabilities.”

After the big showdown, fans can bump into the players at Shoeless Joes for a special meet and greet.
