Brampton men charged following alleged break-in, crash with Barrie police cruisers

Three men from the Toronto area are facing numerous charges following an alleged break-in and a collision with a responding police car in Barrie.

On Sunday, just before 4 a.m., police were alerted to a reported break-in at an Ardagh Road and Mapleton Avenue business.

Responding officers arrived at the store within minutes and witnessed three suspects leaving the business and getting into a car.

Officials say the car then fled the parking lot, striking a responding police car and nearly colliding with two other responding police cruisers.

After traveling in the wrong direction on a highway service road, the three of them lost control and crashed into the ditch on the southbound off-ramp as they headed towards Highway 400.

Police say that all three men proceeded to run away but were busted along the side of the road.

Now, a 37-year-old, a 28-year-old, and a 25-year-old of Brampton are facing multiple charges in connection with this incident.

The charges include theft over $5,000, disguise with intent, conspiracy to commit an indictable offense, possession of break-in instruments, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, break and enter, flight from a peace officer, possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000, and several charges related to failure to comply with release and probation orders.

The vehicle involved in the pursuit was seized, and a quantity of Canadian currency and products believed to be from the business were found inside.

A 25-year-old was taken to a local hospital and treated for minor injuries.

All three men were held in custody pending a bail hearing.
