Big plans ahead for 84 Hurontario Street in downtown Collingwood

Downtown Collingwood’s newest public space is getting a makeover.

The town says it’s moving ahead with the next phase of planning and design for 84 Hurontario Street, an active interim public space located in the heart of downtown Collingwood.

This property was set aside for public use after council’s decision to acquire the site back in 2023.

Since then, the town says the space has supported community use, seasonal activation and small-scale programming, while also serving as a temporary public gathering area.

“84 Hurontario Street has quickly become an active and recognizable community space in our downtown,” said Collingwood Mayor Yvonne Hamlin. “This next phase will help guide how the space can continue to serve residents, businesses and visitors over the long term.”

The land currently features seating areas, planters, pedestrian pathways, bike parking and the large-scale “Postcard Mural” installed by the Downtown Collingwood BIA.

The project is set to move through four pivotal stages: stakeholder engagement, visioning, design and construction documentation.

According to the town, the public will have an opportunity to view proposed concept designs and share feedback during a public presentation at the Downtown Farmers’ Market on Aug. 22, 2026.

Designs will then be shared on the project page for further review and consideration.

Future phases, including tendering and construction, remain subject to budget approval. Staff says construction could begin in 2027, pending council’s decision.
