The third of five young men charged with robbery in an Aug. 2025 Georgian Mall jewelry store smash-and-grab has pleaded guilty. 22-year-old Ahmed Al-Saeed admitted in a Barrie courtroom to being one of thieves who victimized Dia Amore Jewellers in Barrie. Security cameras captured four masked thieves rush into the Georgian Mall jewelry store on Aug. 18, 2025, at about 1 p.m. with hammers in hand, destroying display cases and making off with bags of jewelry. Dia Amore Jewellers had been hit twice in a one-year span. Police said Al-Saeed and four others, including a then-16-year-old getaway car driver were arrested within minutes of the heist after crashing a stolen Honda Civic off Highway 400 in a construction zone along Innisfil Beach Road. The getaway driver, whose identity is protected by the Youth Criminal Justice Act, pleaded guilty last month to robbery is due back in court in July for his sentencing hearing. Another teen, now 17, who faces separate gun charges in Toronto, pleaded guilty and was sentenced to time served earlier this year for being one of the masked thieves. He had been in custody for six months at the time of his guilty plea. A third teen, police said had a gun on him that day, appears headed for trial early in the new year. He was granted bail to his mother days after his arrest. Another man, 19-year-old Jahzyi Smith of Mississauga, remains behind bars. Smith is facing separate robbery and weapons charges in Brampton. Al-Saeed is the only member of the group from Barrie and has been in custody for nine months. CTV News has learned, Al-Saeed worked as a mechanic in Barrie but was fired in the days leading up to the jewelry store robbery. The defence is seeking a pre-sentence report that will inform the court of Al-Saeed’s history prior to sentencing. Al-Saeed is scheduled to return to court in June. The allegations against his two remaining co-accused have not been tested in court.
