1,000 Bradford residents demand better GO Train service

1,000-plus residents have signed a petition calling for a safer GO Station in Bradford West Gwillimbury. The petition is asking for more two-way and all-day service and regional connections to fill current late-night service gaps.

They’re also asking for better pedestrian crossing lanes at the station, better walking and cycling access and additional parking.

“A thousand people in under a month is one of the strongest responses I’ve seen for any local issue,” said Coun. Jonathan Scott, who sponsored the petition. “Bradford is telling Metrolinx loud and clear: we need better GO service and a safer station — and we need it now.”

Coun. Scott, Mayor James Leduc and Coun. Ben Verkaik co-signed a letter to the Metrolinx Board seeking improved service, a safer station and heritage designation for the historic train station building.

“These are not extravagant asks,” Scott said. “We’re asking Metrolinx to deliver on the long-promised vision of Regional Express Rail. We’re asking for the basics: safety and reliability. A town growing as fast as Bradford simply can’t depend on a GO schedule that drops off outside rush hour.”
