N.S. youth, man arrested after child killed in collision involving farm vehicle

A man and a youth have been charged following a deadly crash near Antigonish, N.S.

A man and youth are facing charges after a child was killed in a collision involving a farm vehicle in Nova Scotia’s Antigonish County.

The RCMP responded to the collision on Highway 104 near Dagger Woods Road and Pomquet Monks Head Road around 9:50 p.m. on Nov. 1.

Police learned an SUV and a large farm vehicle had collided, but the driver of the farm vehicle allegedly failed to remain on scene.

The driver of the SUV and three passengers were taken to hospital, where one of the passengers, a child, was pronounced dead.

Investigators found the farm vehicle shortly after the collision and determined it had been driven by a youth.

Police arrested the youth and a 41-year-old man, both from Afton, N.S., in connection with the collision.

They are both facing charges of failing to stop after an accident resulting in death. The man, who has not yet been identified, is also facing a charge of obstructing justice. They are scheduled to appear at Antigonish provincial court at a later date. The youth’s identity will be protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

Police say the investigation is ongoing and they won’t be releasing any further information at this time.
