Canada’s Olympic women’s hockey team roster unveiled: N.S. star, coaches on the squad

Hockey Canada unveiled the roster for the 2026 Olympic Winter Games women’s hockey team Friday.

Nova Scotia’s Blayre Turnbull was announced as one of 23 players hitting the ice for Canada this February. A two-time Olympic medallist, Turnbull won gold in Beijing 2022 and silver at PyeongChang 2018.

Turnbull will be joined by fellow Nova Scotians head coach Troy Ryan and assistant coach Kori Cheverie.

Of the 23 players named to the 2026 squad, 16 were on the gold medal winning Beijing team and seven are making their Olympic debut.

Hockey Canada says the players were evaluated at training camps, as well as at Rivalry Series, Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL), and collegiate games.

“Paring down the roster to the final group to represent Canada is always a challenging process,” said general manager Gina Kingsbury in a news release from Hockey Canada. “We began the year with 30 athletes who trained with us throughout the season, while also evaluating a deep pool of talented players, ensuring every decision was carefully considered. We are confident we have selected a highly motivated and eager group who take great pride and passion in wearing the Maple Leaf. It has been a long four-year journey for our entire team, and we are excited for the opportunity to compete for a gold medal at the Olympics.”

Canada’s roster includes three goaltenders, seven defence and 13 forwards.

Women’s Olympic hockey will take place Feb. 5 to Feb. 19. Canada will be in Group A, along with Czechia, Finland, Switzerland and the United States. They will face Finland in their Olympic opener on Feb. 5.
