The Fredericton Police Force (FPF) is warning shoppers to be vigilant after a recent “theft scheme” in the region. Police said the scam involves thieves attaching wires to the back of a vehicle or placing unusual objects behind the tires while the vehicle is parked and unattended. When the shopper returns, police said a suspect approaches them claiming there’s damage or something wrong with their car and offers to help inspect it. “While you’re distracted at the back of your vehicle, another individual enters your car to steal valuables that are in plain sight, such as purses or wallets,” said the Fredericton Police Force. Police said residents and visitors should remain vigilant and keep their vehicles locked at all times with valuables out of sight. “If you are approached by someone offering help, stay alert and do not leave your vehicle unattended,” said police.
