Cambridge is celebrating Canada Day – one month late. The city originally organized a party for July 1, but it was cut short after a fast-moving storm swept through Riverside Park. Video from one party-goer showed strong wind gusts and people holding tight onto tents so they wouldn’t be blown away. A similar scene played out in Brantford. That city’s Canada Day celebration at Lion’s Park also ended early thanks to the same storm system. While Brantford delayed their fireworks display by a day, Cambridge decided to postpone their light show until Saturday, Aug. 1. The city has invited residents to bring their lawn chairs, blankets and snacks to Riverside Park. The fireworks are expected to start at dusk, or around 9:30 p.m. Residents are encouraged to walk, bike, take Grand River Transit or the free shuttle from the Cambridge Centre Mall to Riverside Park, as parking space is limited. The city said the first shuttle will leave the Cambridge Centre at 7 p.m. from Parking Area 5, on the upper level across from Zehrs. The last bus of the night will leave Riverside Park at 11 p.m.
